Analysis
Another problem from ‘Back Checker Strategy’.
The correct move here is 13/9 11/8, playing safely now we’re in the ‘advanced stage’ - where we’ve moved our back checkers up to a forward anchor. It’s not the time for bold or aggressive play.
Michi’s analysis of the advanced stage is a nuanced updating of the famous Paul Magriel ‘Safe Play vs Bold Play’ criteria. Those criteria say that an advanced anchor gives you the strength to play more boldly. Michi shows us where that does & doesn’t apply, and makes it clear that the 'advanced stage' is a time for safety.
