Analysis

I think the right move here is easier to find when you’re looking at a stand-alone problem, rather than in the middle of a game where the previous rolls (and adrenaline) will influence your thinking.

You are losing badly here - in a holding game and 42 pips behind in the race. Indeed, if White was on roll this would already be a double/pass.

But all is not lost. White hasn’t built their board yet, and has two inner board blots. That means it’s the perfect time for you to stir things up, and maximise ‘contact’ between your checkers and White’s checkers - making it harder for them to come home safely, and preventing any quick cubes. The general rule applies - when you’re behind in the race look to increase contact, when you’re ahead look to minimise it.

The only right answer is 20/16 13/10. If it looks scary to present two blots to White, imagine the board from White’s position. All they want to do is come home safely, and you’ve just made that a lot harder.
