32 players, 76 matches, 10 hours of play and 2 worthy winners...

I'm sure everyone who played yesterday has their own stories of the twists and turns that the day took.

For the finalists the same was true, especially Roger Phillips (pictured top left) who won the consolation tournament with 4 straight wins - preceded by 3 losses in a row in the qualifier.

Stephen Booth (pictured bottom right) won his first ever 32-player tournament, losing only to Lawrence Powell in the qualifier.

Lawrence himself came unstuck against Zigi Fibert in the main knockout, but made up for it by buying Group C in the auction at the start of the day. Both Darryl Artt and Stephen were in Group C and so by the final of the main tournament it was clear Lawrence had backed the right group (perhaps also because he was in Group C) and so he took the auction pot.

Congratulations to Stephen and Roger as the winners on the day, commiserations to Darryl and Florin who were runners up and thanks to everyone for making it a great day of backgammon!
