Trophy - from the Greek tropē, meaning a rout. A memorial you put up of something left behind by the enemy you rout-ed.
Hmmm, well thankfully we don't take that too literally when we award trophies today. In fact, we are very excited to now reveal the trophies up for grabs for the 5 major BGiE tournaments in 2025.
The first of these will be awarded this Saturday, to the winner of the Spring Tournament. They will all be on display, so if you are playing this weekend, be sure to take a look and decide which you'd like to win!
A big thank you to Gavin, Valérie and particularly Kate who worked on the concept and turned it into reality.
Talking of trophies, this week saw the March editions of the Grand Prix F1 and F2, won by Ionel Florea and Yas Turan respectively. Congratulations to them and thanks to everyone that turned out on the start line.
Finally, an early reminder that it's the March Knockout tournament next Wednesday, 19 March, in addition to the regular Swiss play on Monday. The Knockout is £50 to enter + £3 registration and is limited to 16 players. The winner takes home £560 and the runner up £240. In January and February places went fast, so secure your place now for March by following the link above.
