Time flies and the seasons change. This Monday saw the first club night match played outdoors in 2025. I can confirm that Gulcin and Jonathan were not paid to sit out in the garden, nor were they chained to the bench - the lovely weather lured them out, as I expect it will more of us in the coming months.
Monday also saw the end of the first quarter of play for the year - 688 matches involving 81 different players across our expanded offering of Swiss nights, Grand Prix (F1 and F2), £50 Knockout, the Ealing Cup and Spring Tournament.
Leading the Club standings on Hub is Tariq Siddiqi, while the UKBGF ladder has Peter Benson on top. The Grand Prix F1 is being led by Ionel Florea and the F2 by Steve O'Connor. You can see your own progress at the same links.
On Monday we played 4 Swiss tournaments, won by Yas Turan, Jimmy Ishac, Zigi Fibert and Peter Benson - congratulations to all of them and thanks to everyone that turned out to make it a fun evening of backgammon!
And there's a lot more to come in the coming weeks and months:
Ealing Cup - the round of 32 has just started, check who your next opponent is and play your match by the end of April
Wed 23 April £50 Knockout - sign up is open, grab your place now, limited to 16 players
Tue 15 April Club head to head at St Albans - we already have 14 players down to compete in the return If you'd like to be added to the Ealing team, please let us know as soon as possible.
27 July UK Clubs Championship in York - be part of a team of 5 trying to lift the trophy for Ealing. So far we are struggling to raise a team, come on, we can do it - sign up now!
I cant wait to get back to R&C to play in the garden.
